General Cleaning Tips
Don’t put off tomorrow what you can do today is the key to
keeping your home clean and organized. For example,
cleaning as you go with cooking avoids leaving a major mess
after dinner that may be left for later. Or at the very least soak
the dishes in water in the sink so they don’t set and become
more difficult to clean.
This example applies to cleaning a mirror as well. Cleaning the
mirror and counter around the sink right after you get ready in
the morning is quick and is much easier than if you only do it
once in a while. A towel and Glass cleaner can be left under
the sink for easy accessibility. The same premise applies to
throwing away food left in the refrigerator that you just won’t
eat and throwing the Tupperware in the dishwasher. Cleaning
spills as they occur are much easier than cleaning them when
the set. Especially on the stove top, inside the refrigerator and
counter-tops. How do you keep the inside of garbage cans
from getting grimy? Always use a liner.
Doing these as they occur makes it so much easer to keep up
on these tasks. This is often why homes get out of control
when the task gets so overwhelming that you have no energy
or desire to tackle it. Organizing the living room, kitchen
counters and bedroom each night before you go to bed avoids
the overwhelming task of doing it all at once when you wake
up one morning. This can really zap your energy.
For some of the major tasks like window washing, carpet
cleaning, floor waxing and deep cleaning, put them on a
schedule as you would any other appointment.
If you are busy like most but want your house white glove
clean, consider hiring a house cleaning service.
In families or houses with multiple room-mates, consider
putting together a task list and assign jobs.
Having good equipment is another key to effective cleaning.
You can get a good light weigh vacuum with attachments for
under $100. The heavier the vacuum the harder it is to push
around so keep that in mind. It is also important to have a
multi-purpose cleaner, comet, glass cleaner, pine-sol, wood
and tile cleaner. You can use paper towels or lint free towels.
Cutting down on clutter is something that also should be dealt
with on-going. Throwing away old newspapers, magazines,
junk mail, etc. when you’re done with them keeps them from
piling up.
